Biography

Mosharraf al-Din Mosleh ibn Abdallah Shirazi

Saadi Shirazi was one of the greatest Persian poets and prose writers of the seventh century AH and an unrivaled master of prose and ghazal. After studying at the Nizamiyya in Baghdad and undertaking long journeys, he returned to Shiraz and completed Bustan in 655 AH and Golestan in 656 AH. His ghazals and other writings were later collected in the Kolliyat-e Saadi and have had a lasting influence on Persian language, ethics, and culture. He died in Shiraz sometime between 690 and 694 AH.
