Khajeh Shams al-Din Mohammad Shirazi
Hafez Shirazi, widely known as Lesan al-Gheyb, was one of the greatest ghazal poets in Persian and the defining literary figure of the eighth century AH. He lived in Shiraz and brought the Persian ghazal to a remarkable height through layered language, musicality, and the interplay of love, mysticism, and social criticism. Divan-e Hafez includes ghazals, qasidas, fragments, rubaiyat, and several masnavis and holds an exceptional place in Persian culture.
