Ayyuqi

Biography

Ayyuqi was a poet of the late fourth and early fifth centuries AH and the author of the romantic narrative Varqa o Golshah. This masnavi of more than two thousand verses is among the earliest Persian narrative poems. He dedicated the work to a ruler titled Sultan Ghazi, commonly identified in scholarship with Sultan Mahmud of Ghazna. Little is known about Ayyuqi’s personal life.
